(Viola x wittrockiana) 4 inch pot

Pansies bred specifically for long stems. The trick is to making sure you grow in light medium, with plants spaced close together (3-4") crowded and with afternoon shade. A pot would be a good spot for these, but keep an eye on the water!

Aurora Shades come in yellow shades with a dainty blue picotee - delicately painted flowers on sturdy plants. The striking contrast between the blue picotee and yellow adds to the intrigue and beauty of this variety.  Our first year growing too, so grow with us!

Now that we are looking at nothing but soil, some straggly bits of irrigation and the longest to-do list ever, we like to head back to the archives. Our mid-summer garden enjoying some heavy moisture in the air.
Lycoris radiata or Red Spider Lily. Wow honestly, can you even believe this exists? Truly a beautiful species. We planted these in the fall of 2022 hoping for a 2023 bloom. They notoriously skip their first and sometimes second year bloom time in th
Dahlia 'Zundert Mystery Fox' an outstanding performer. A juicy raspberry color and a little bit smaller in size than 'Brown Sugar' We loved growing this one.
When the fog rolls in, early September.
Here is Celosia 'Bar Bossa Champagne' looking absolutely divine. We don't pinch our first flush, letting the crested fans get as big and wavy as possible. Then we cut the side shoots all summer long.
Alcalthaea suffrutescens 'Parkallee' Lisianthus 'Falda Yellow', 'Pucchino Choco', 'Celeb Apricot' and 'Grace Lavender' with Phlox 'Cherry Caramel' and some dried Allium seed heads.
A tangle of Alcalthaea suffrutescens 'Parkallee' and Lisianthus 'Celeb Apricot' on repeat in July.
I met Beth Mullins of GROWSGREEN Landscape Design during my time at The Ruth Bancroft Garden. We would talk about stately Agaves and soft Acacias and all things Protea. When I found out she was also a ceramic artist, we immediately started scheming
